There is not a shiftworker on the planet who has not had trouble sleeping and tried to sort the problems out themselves. They have tried diets, relaxation techniques, calming through the senses, pills, herbs, black out curtains and more. By trying all these strategies many have become highly knowledgeable about sleep strategies and have been helping their colleagues sleep better with advice and information.
At Shiftwork Services we think these workers are well placed to offer their knowledge and skills for three reasons:
Reason 1 – Shiftworkers know better than anyone else how hard it is to get enough sleep and the real challenges of sleeping in the day time.
Reason 2 – Shiftworkers have a heightened awareness of the risks of not sleeping including making mistakes, having accidents, being irritable and developing health problems.
Reason 3 – Shiftworkers have often identified key strategies that work well and others that don’t work so well.
